A Little Bit About
Who We Are
- We Are a Covenant People
-
We understand ourselves to be a community, the People of God, the Body of Christ. We are not a
gathering of individuals searching to meet our own needs, but a congregation committed to each
other and the call to carry on the ministry of Jesus. We are married together—for better or worse.
- We Believe in the Goodness of Humans
-
We recognize evil in the world, but we don’t wallow in human sin. We affirm that we are created in
the image of God, filled with gifts for ministry and the obligation to live responsibly in the world.
- We Are Unapologetically Christian But Recognize the Truth of Other Religions
-
We have been nurtured in the Christian Church and know God most clearly through the person of Jesus
revealed in the testimony of the Bible. But we do not arrogantly claim that we own all truth. God
speaks in many ways to the people of our earth.
- We Are an Inclusive Church
-
We don’t live our lives by declaring who is in and who is out. We are not a club of the saved.
We believe that Jesus reached out to all people with God’s love, and we seek to do the same. We
welcome people of all ages, races, economic classes, and sexual orientation as sisters and brothers
in Christ. We strive to live out the UCC slogan, “Whoever you are, wherever you are on life’s
journey, you are welcome here!”
- We Are a Congregational Church
-
We are not a dogmatic church, demanding theological uniformity. We believe in freedom of
conscience and cherish discussion and intellectual integrity. We don’t let our minister make
our decisions for us. We believe that this is God’s church, and we each have a part is listening
to determine what God wants us to do—together!
