About Our ChurchHi, thanks for surfing in for a visit! Before you take a look at all the pictures, history, and sermons we have to share I want to tell you a little about our church, because we might be unlike many other churches you’ve known. We believe in intellectual and spiritual freedom. We are a non-creedal church with local autonomy. That means that we don’t expect you to sign your name to a page of Christian doctrine before you can join us. It also means that our church isn’t required to obey decisions made at important meetings in some faraway place. As a church, we make our own decisions about faith and practice. And each of us searches to define what it means to be a follower of Jesus in a way that is intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually satisfying. The part that makes us a church is that we live out our freedom and autonomy in a community that we have chosen to join. A patchwork quilt is one of my favorite metaphors for our church. We come together, with our different abilities and experiences, to become a faith community. We don’t expect that we will always agree, but we are committed to each other and to God. We believe that our differences are a strength and not a weakness. They add a richness to our life together as we learn from each other. Individual pieces of a quilt might be attractive or plain, complicated or simple. When they are brought together, they become a part of a larger pattern and achieve a beauty that is far more than any separate piece of cloth. Together we are much more than we are individually. We invite you to join us and share the joys of Christian fellowship, worship, study, and service. You will find a warm and friendly welcome at Kirkland Congregational Church. You will be loved, encouraged, and challenged! Rev. Walter John Boris |
